Frequently asked questions
Last updated: October 28, 2026
Quick answers about StoryShots on the web and in the apps. If your question isn't here, email support@getstoryshots.com or see the other ways to reach us.
StoryShots AI
Can I get a summary of a book that isn't in the library?
Yes, on the web. Sign in, open Request a book and search for the title, and StoryShots AI writes the summary for you. Free accounts can add one new book a day and Premium members five a day. Reading books that are already in the library doesn't count toward that.
Premium members can also ask for a 15-minute Full Summary of any book, one a day.
Login and account
I can't sign in with my email. What should I do?
On the web we email you a 6-digit code. Type it on the same page where you asked for it. A code works for 10 minutes, so if yours has expired, ask for a new one. If the email doesn't arrive, check your spam folder.
The iOS and Android apps email you a sign-in link instead. Open it on the same phone you asked for it on. If the email landed on another device, send the link to yourself on your phone and open it there.
I get stuck on the sign-in screen on Android. What should I do?
Open your phone's Settings, tap Apps, then See all apps. Find Google Play Services, tap Storage and then Clear cache. Do the same for Google Play Store and for StoryShots. You may need to tap Force stop on an app before its cache clears.
How do I delete my StoryShots account?
In the iOS or Android app, open Settings and tap Delete your account. On the web, open your Account page and use Delete account at the bottom. If you can't sign in, email support@getstoryshots.com from the address you sign in with and we'll delete the account for you.
If you have a subscription, cancel it first. Deleting your account doesn't stop App Store or Google Play billing. To cancel a subscription you bought on the web, use Manage billing on your Account page.
Purchase issues
I already paid, but StoryShots is asking me to pay again. Why?
Premium is one membership on the web and in the apps, tied to the account you bought it with. First make sure you're signed in with that same account (the same Apple, Google or email sign-in).
In the app, tap Restore your purchase on the purchase screen. On the web, open your Account page and press Refresh next to your plan. If Premium still doesn't show after a few hours, email support@getstoryshots.com with the email address on your receipt.
My card doesn't work. What should I do?
We never see your card details. On the web, payments go through Stripe, and in the apps Apple or Google handle them. If a payment is declined, try another card or ask your bank. For an App Store or Google Play payment, Apple or Google support can see what went wrong, for example Google Play Help. You can also buy Premium on the Upgrade page. It's the same membership as in the app.
I'm getting "Your transaction cannot be completed. Please make sure your Play Country is correct."
This message comes from Google Play. Check that your Play country is right. If you've moved recently, Google explains how to change your Play country. If your country is already correct and the error stays, ask Google to review it using the same email as your Play account, and fill in that form only once.
Do you offer any discounts?
We run promotions from time to time and announce them in the app and by email.
Creators can also join our partner program and earn a share of what the readers they send pay.
Other questions
Is StoryShots free?
You can start free, without an account. Every day you can open a few book summaries for free, and a free account lets you open more. Premium unlocks every summary, the 15-minute Full Summaries and full audio, and in the app the Deep Dives, animated videos and infographics too. The Upgrade page shows what's included and what it costs.
I can't install the app. I'm getting "This app won't work for your device".
Update your phone's operating system first, then make sure the Google Play Store app is up to date (in Play Store, tap your profile icon, then Settings, About and Play Store version). If that doesn't help, force stop Google Play Store and clear its cache and storage under Settings, Apps, Google Play Store, Storage. If the message stays, Google Play support can tell you why your device is blocked.
In the meantime you can read and listen in your browser at app.getstoryshots.com, with the same account. Get the app opens the right store for your device.
Is StoryShots an alternative to reading books?
No. Nothing replaces reading a great book cover to cover. StoryShots helps you learn the key ideas of the books gathering dust on your shelf, find your next read, or refresh what you remember from a book you've already read. A summary can only scratch the surface of what an author spent years writing.
Can I act on what I learn without asking a professional?
Please don't. As our Terms of Service say, summaries can contain errors and are no substitute for the book or for expert advice. Talk to a professional before you act on anything, especially on health or money.
Some books that were in your collection are gone. Why?
Now and then we take a book down to improve its content. When it's ready again it comes back, and you'll find it in the library as before.
How often do you add new books?
We keep adding books. The newest 15-minute Full Summaries are on this page, newest first, and if a book you want is missing you can add it yourself with Request a book.
How can I hear about new books and offers?
Turn on notifications in the StoryShots app. We also email new books and offers to our newsletter subscribers, and every email has an unsubscribe link.
How can I support StoryShots?
Thank you for asking. Going Premium helps the most. An honest review in the App Store or Google Play helps a lot too, and so does telling a friend who reads. If you have an audience, our partner program pays you for the readers you send.
Do you agree with the ideas in the books you summarize?
Not necessarily. We do believe in free speech and in reading with an open, curious mind.
What's your relationship with Amazon?
StoryShots is an Amazon Associate. Some book and audiobook links on our pages are affiliate links, so if you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It helps pay for the free tier.
Can I use StoryShots on my computer?
Yes. The web app at app.getstoryshots.com works in any modern browser on Windows, Mac or Linux. It's the same account and the same Premium membership as the app. There's no separate desktop app.
I'm an author. Can you add my book?
Maybe. If you think your book would be a good fit for our readers, email hello@getstoryshots.com with the title and a short note about it.
Can you add full audiobooks for every book?
No. StoryShots makes its own summaries of a book's key ideas. Licensing full audiobooks would mean much higher prices for everyone. Where we can, a book's page links to the full audiobook on Audible. If you'd like this anyway, suggest it or upvote it on our feature board, which you'll find in the app's Settings.
